Joi Torrence, MHA, was named technical director of Phlebotomy in the Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories last month.
In this role, Torrence oversees inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy, comprised of approximately 70 staff altogether. Also, she leads the department’s ongoing process improvement effort in both inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy areas.
Torrence, who came to BWH in 2005 as a Deland Fellow, has a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Southern California.
As a Deland Fellow, she worked on facility planning, process improvements and implementation of a patient- and family-centered care model. For the past three years, she served as administrative manager in the Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Interventional Center, where she managed all operations, including budget oversight, facility planning and information system activities.
