During the past year, the Channing Happiness Committee has brought smiles and fun activities to the research team at BWH’s Channing Laboratory.
Faculty researchers and associate epidemiologists Lorelei Mucci, ScD, assistant professor of Medicine, Rulla Tamimi, ScD, assistant professor of Medicine, and Fran Grodstein, ScD, associate professor of Medicine, formed the committee a year ago as a way to boost morale in the division. Now, with nine members, the committee focuses on improving quality of life at work and brings together their 110 colleagues from the Nurses Health Study team.
Last week, the Happiness Committee hosted its most successful event so far: a five-day bocce tournament on the Harvard Medical School Quad. The event included a friendly 16-team bocce competition that culminated with an awards ceremony for this year’s champions, the Bocce Bruisers, and an ice cream party. Given its success, the bocce tournament will become an annual event.
In addition to the tournament, the committee has hosted lunch parties, coffee and tea gatherings, games and activities during the past year. The committee also started their own newsletter highlighting news, events and recognitions within their research group.
