Trina Lorch and Sarah Gardent
One month into their fellowships, Sarah Gardent, MBA, and Trina Lorch, MBA, already are grateful for the immense learning opportunities available to BWH Deland Fellows.
“It’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else,” said Gardent. “This fellowship enables us to see both the clinical and administrative sides of the hospital and to really learn about patient care.”
Through the fellowship, Gardent and Lorch will spend three months of comprehensive training in clinical and administrative settings and nine months completing project-based work under the mentorship of a vice president: Gardent with Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, senior vice president of Clinical Excellence, and Lorch with Sharon Vitti, vice president of Clinical Services, Ambulatory and Women’s Health.
“I’m interested in exploring ways to have an impact on improving the way health care is delivered,” said Lorch. “It’s exciting to be in a leading-edge hospital like this, where so much innovation takes place, and to see firsthand how improvements are implemented at the provider level.”
Lorch comes to BWH with experience in leading product design and operational execution. She previously worked as a senior manager at the Boston-based company, Health Dialog, focusing on the design and development of a health and wellness product and business in new markets. Prior to that, she held positions at Boston Scientific and Freemarkets, Inc., based in Pittsburgh. She received her MBA from Dartmouth College and her BA from Northwestern University.
Prior to becoming a Deland Fellow, Gardent was a summer associate at Cigna Healthcare after working for three years as an underwriter at Arch Insurance Group in St. Paul, Minn. There, she underwrote professional and general liability, including analysis and risk evaluation, pricing and marketing for new business submissions among other responsibilities. She also has held positions at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. She received her MBA from Cornell University and her BA from the University of New Hampshire.
