Alejandra and Cristian Ramirez show off their new daughter Kamilah and the laptop that enabled Alejandra’s mom in Colombia to see Kamilah’s birth.
Even though she was in Colombia, Alejandra Ramirez’s mother did not miss one second of the action as her granddaughter, Kamilah, was born at BWH last week.
Alejandra and her husband Cristian, both of Colombia, brought a laptop computer into their delivery room and gave Alejandra’s mother a close-up view of the birth via Skype, software that enables users to make video and voice calls.
“My mother held her computer for 15 hours and fell asleep at one point,” Alejandra said. “We had to call her to wake her up when it was really time.”
Alejandra and Cristian, who now live in Revere, both said that their experience at BWH was wonderful. “The service here is the best,” Cristian said. “We couldn’t ask for more.”
