BWH ranks among the top hospitals in the country for its implementation of electronic medical records, according to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics, a subsidiary of HIMSS which is a not-for-profit organization that promotes understanding of health care information and management systems.
HIMSS Analytics announced its EMR Adoption Model Stage 6 list last month, ranking BWH among 42 other hospitals in the country that have made significant progress in implementing a paperless medical record.
HIMSS Analytics examined nearly 5,000 health care institutions in the country and ranked them in stages from 0 to 7, with Stage 7 being the top category. By ranking in Stage 6, BWH serves as a role model in health care IT adoption for other health care systems just beginning this process.
“We should be very proud of our accomplishments with clinical systems. Our electronic medical records (LMR), along with our order-entry and medication administration (eMAR) systems have helped us achieve this recognition,” said BWH Chief Information Officer Sue Schade. “Our deployment of acute care documentation in the next few years will push us closer to Stage 7, which only a small number of hospitals have reached.”
