Since BWH Security and Parking provides 24/7 coverage, not all of the department’s 271 members are able to attend the annual awards celebration and dinner in January. So this year, the department brought the celebration to the 50 officers and valet attendants on duty throughout the main campus, 221 Longwood Ave., 850 Boylston St. and One Brigham Circle.
“We boxed up meals and delivered them to the officers and valets working the night of our event,” said Bob Donaghue, operations manager for Security and Parking. “It was a meals on wheels operation.”
Across the street from the hospital at Longwood Hall in the Longwood Galleria, 100 depart ment members and guests enjoyed dinner and a look back at the accomplishments of 2008, including the issuing of more than 18,000 new ID badges, the parking of 457,414 cars and the involvement in planning for and opening the Shapiro Cardiovascular Center.
The highlight of the evening was the awards presentation, during which Security and Parking honored a group of employees for their outstanding service throughout the past year.
For Security, Andrew Rutherford was named Security Officer of the Year; Chantal Horgan was awarded Dispatcher of the Year; and Darren Lang was recognized as Supervisor of the Year.
On the Parking side, Jude Pierre-Philippe took home the Customer Service of the Year Award; Jorge Rivadeneira received the Valet of the Year Award; Chazzy Bowick was recognized as Supervisor of the Year; and Tekelu Wolday was named Cashier of the Year.
