It took nine months to develop, but husband and wife Peter Doubilet, MD, PhD, and Carol Benson, MD, in March published their new book on pregnancy. “Your Developing Baby: Conception to Birth” features ultrasound images from every stage of a baby’s development together with pointers on what to look for in an ultrasound.
“We wanted to do this for many years because we love how excited parents to-be get when they see these pictures,” said Benson, director of Ultrasound and co-director of High Risk Obstetrical Ultrasound. She and Doubilet, the senior vice chair of Radiology, are HMS professors with five children.
“Pregnant women love ultrasounds because they get to see pictures of their baby and get to know him or her before birth,” Doubilet said, adding that women commonly receive two to three scans per pregnancy. “This is a good way for mothers to-be to learn what’s going on inside of them.”
This is the first publication from the couple designed for the general public. Writer Roanne Weisman collaborated with the authors to make the book easy for all readers to understand. Doubilet’s illustrations explain the ultrasound images so readers get a clear picture of what happens as their baby develops.
“This book features many pictures that provide useful information about how the baby grows from conception to birth,” Benson said.
The book is available in the BWH Gift Shop and at all major book stores. Find out more at
