BWH’s annual Employee Career Fair attracted more than 400 staff members to the Cabot Atrium last week to learn advancing their careers within the hospital.
“This fair provided an excellent chance for employees to see the numerous opportunities and career paths in the hospital,” said Lisa Ponton, JD, vice president of Human Resources.
Interested applicants could sit for a pre-screening interview with a recruiter to discuss open positions. Those interested in certain positions could also hear about them straight from the source, as medical assistants, patient care assistants, phlebotomists, practice managers, social workers, nurses, unit coordinators and research assistants were available to talk about their positions and departments.
“This was an opportunity for employees to meet HR professionals, see available opportunities up close and learn what it takes to get to the next level,” said Beverley Sobers, director of Workforce Development, adding that recruiters will follow up with employee applicants and aim to fill open positions within six weeks.
Career Coach Geoff Vercauteren has seen an influx of appointments since the event.
“This was the tipping point for some employees on the fence about going back to school or changing positions,” said Vercauteren, who led workshops on résumé writing and career planning.
“There is no other hospital in the area that does what we do with careers and coaching,” he added.
