The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) visited 360 employees on 55 pods in one evening last month to inform overnight staff about the program’s many services.
“We accomplished our goal of alerting off-shift staff about all the support programs available to them through EAP,” said Henrietta Menco, LICSW, CEAP, EAP quality manager. “We felt welcome on each pod we visited.”
Judy Perron, RN, nurse administrator, escorted Andrea Stidsen, LICSW, CEAP, EAP director, Richard Chester, LMHC, CEAP, Kathie Barnard LICSW, CEAP, Donna Kausek, LMHC, EAP domestic violence specialist, and Menco around the hospital. They informed nurses, patient care assistants, housekeepers and others about EAP services designed to help employees deal with challenges including stress, money issues, domestic violence, and relationships. EAP also helps employees deal with traumatic events in the hospital.
“The EAP can be a big help for a workgroup trauma or a traumatic event where only one person is impacted. This gives them the opportunity to speak with someone nonjudgmental to work through the emotional issues,” Perron said.
The EAP is tentatively planning another night orientation in the fall to spread awareness of services that can help employees deal with emotional stress and other issues during the holiday season.
