Reward and Recognition Program
Employee Perks
Bob Hottin and Julie Daly received a delightful surprise on Tuesday when they learned they had won awards from the department of Nutrition's Reward and Recognition Program. The Reward and Recognition program is sponsored and funded by the Quality of Worklife Committee, and offers seed monies for departments to start their own awards program. “According to the Staff Survey and other focus group data, employees find that recognition for a job well done is most meaningful when it comes from their supervisor. The Reward and Recognition Program provides structure and support for supervisors to thank their staff in a specific and timely manner,” said Martha Pyle Farrell, chair of the Quality of Worklife Reward and Recognition Fund Committee. “Nutrition’s program is a model for other departments because it was developed by the staff and based on their feedback, rewards behaviors and accomplishments that the staff identified as important to the department as a team.” “We conducted a survey and focus groups of the entire Nutrition staff. Based on their feedback, we were able to design a program customized to meet our needs. We will offer two awards each quarter for the next year, and the first two winners were announced at a formal ceremony this week,” said Kathy McManus, director of the department of Nutrition. An award for improvement in practice, service, or outcome was presented to Bob Hottin, and an award for team excellence went to Julie Daly. “The Reward and Recognition Program has been so successful that it has expanded beyond the inpatient service, where it started, to the entire department, and both managers and staff members are pleased with the results,” adds McManus. If your department is interested in participating in the Reward and Recognition program, please contact Martha Pyle Farrell at ext. 5741 for details. All BWH departments are eligible.
