The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) has
recognized Barbara Gottlieb, MD, Division of General Medicine and Primary Care, for her support of nurse practitioners. She is the Massachusetts recipient of the State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate.
“The nursing approach to patient care, with its greater emphasis on health and patient education, is a perfect complement to the skills and orientation of the physicians,” Gottlieb said. “I believe that the physician-nurse practitioner team is a superb model for primary care, particularly in low income, minority communities in which patients have a need for support and education.”
Gottlieb was nominated by Cecilia O’Malley and Beth Scanlan. The AANP presented the award to Gottlieb at its annual meeting in Orlando, Florida.
