Kate Gregory, PhD, RN, was named the first Haley Nurse Scientist at BWH as part of the Steven and Kathleen Haley Nurse Scientist Program.
Gregory, an assistant professor in the department of maternal child health at the Boston College W.F. Connell School of Nursing, has a program of research that examines the physiologic factors and clinical interventions on the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants. Gregory will conduct her own research and work with BWH nurses interested in conducting research studies and developing evidence based nursing practice.
Gregory most recently was nurse scientist within the Center for Women and Newborns (CWN) at BWH.
“In that role, she worked with clinical nurses to support scholarship and promote clinical inquiry,” said Mairead Hickey, PhD, RN, chief nurse and senior vice president for Patient Care Services.

The Haley Nurse Scientist Program was established within the Department of Nursing through a generous gift by Steven and Kathleen Haley. Through the Haley Nurse Scientist Program, nursing scholars who are doctorally prepared faculty at the Boston College W.F. Connell School of Nursing receive an appointment at BWH to engage in their own clinical nursing research and to support BWH clinical nurse engagement in scholarly activities.
This program allows Nursing to advance the care of patients and families by promoting nursing scholarship, advancing the development of nursing science and
creating opportunities for the mentoring of BWH clinical nurses.
