JCAHO Survey Concludes on a High Note
During the last month, BWH concluded its regularly scheduled Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) accreditation survey. The intense five-day evaluation was a success and BWH fully expects to effectively address areas for improvement outlined in the surveyors’ findings.
“We appreciate all physicians’ efforts in preparation for and during this challenging process. Your teamwork and dedication was evident and reflected in the high standards we communicated to the surveyors,” said BWH’s Chief Medical Officer Andy Whittemore, MD, who expressed his appreciation for physicians’ level of participation in this year’s survey. “The new Tracer Methodology called for all members of the patient care team to be highly engaged in the survey process. Physicians’ delivered amply to meet this challenge.”
Along with the new Tracer Methodology, JCAHO evaluations will take on a more continuous process, as surveyors’ future visits to BWH will not necessarily be announced. As explained by Karen Nelson, executive director, Clinical Compliance and Risk Management, “Our accreditation will now be based on a more continual assessment and data presentations. I look forward to your continued cooperation and insight as we are asked to more regularly quantify the great care we deliver,” she said.
