ASK YOURSELF: Why is wearing an identification (ID) badge critical to an effective hospital security program?” Wearing an ID badge is not only important for maintaining hospital security, but is also a Massachusetts State Law. All employees must visibly wear their ID badges with the picture side out and above the waist, allowing Security Officers, employees, and patients to identify employees, volunteers, and contractors within the hospital and determine whether individuals have entered unauthorized areas. Additionally, ID badges are used to allow entrance and movement within the hospital during emergency situations; to provide a secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors; and to protect employees, patients, and visitors from theft and other security incidents. Always report a lost badge to the Security Department immediately. Badges with expiration dates past due should be renewed as soon as possible. If your ID badge provides access to secured or sensitive areas, make sure it is kept in a safeguarded location when not in use. Also remember that your ID badge cannot be altered or transferred to another person. Please cooperate with security officers when they conduct ID badge checks and wear your ID badge at all times. If you have questions about ID badges, contact Security Administration at ext. 6001.
