Martin Leber, MD, Retires from SJPHC
On Wednesday, May 31, a retirement party was held for Martin Leber, MD, at the Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center. Leber, who has worked at the SJPHC for almost 30 years, has been a key figure in the center’s success. He was the first physician the clinic hired; and, along with one nurse practitioner, he remained the only physician for some time. Leber has been practicing at the SJPHC ever since, in addition to serving as the center’s first medical director for approximately 15 years and working at his private practice in Newton. “He has exemplified the idea of providing top-quality care regardless of income or ethnicity,” says Michael A. Lambert, MD, also of the SJPHC. “He brought the best of the private practice model and the public health models together to build a very successful clinic.” Plans for the Martin Leber Scholarship Fund to benefit SJPHC pediatric patients and their educational endeavors were announced at Leber’s retirement party. If you are interested in donating to the scholarship fund, please contact Lambert at 983-4203, or e-mail him at mlambert@partners.org
