Can I locate the emergency power outlets? All red electrical outlets designate emergency power and continue to operate even if there is a general power outage in the hospital. Some areas such as operating and recovery rooms and intensive care units do not have red outlets because all outlets in these areas are emergency powered. Emergency-powered outlets in the Tower are designated with "EP" (emergency power) or "EU" (emergency utility) above the outlet. In the Connors Center, emergency-powered outlets are designated with "CP" (critical path) or "LS" (life safety) above the outlet. To ensure that all emergency-power systems are operational, the emergency generators are tested every Wednesday morning. Be sure to use the emergency-power outlets only for critical or life-sustaining patient care or research equipment.
