When Harvard Medical School (HMS) publicly unveiled its 525,000 square-foot New Research Building (NRB) with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, it marked a critical expansion of resources to support its exceptional research mission. “The NRB represents a commitment to medical advancement through greater scientific collaboration,” said Joseph B. Martin, MD, dean of HMS. “By having hospital-based as well as school-based faculty working side-by-side in this new environment, biomedical opportunities will emerge and be taken more quickly from bench to bedside.” The state-of-the-art facility is now home to more than 800 investigators and staff including those from HMS, BWH and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Located at 77 Avenue Louis Pasteur and adjacent to the Harvard Institutes of Medicine, the collaborative venue brings together scientists from many disciplines, providing an environment that fosters further medical advancement and program initiatives. “This tremendous facility signifies the direction research is taking and illustrates the obligation of the university, school and Harvard-affiliated hospitals to ending human suffering caused by disease,” added Martin. “BWH is proud to be a part of this collaborative effort,” said Barbara Bierer, MD, senior vice president for Research at BWH. “This facility brings together many top researchers, supporting the future of life sciences in Boston.”
