Binh Tran aspires to one day be a part of the nursing profession. A senior at Boston Latin Academy, Tran will attend UMass-Amherst in the fall, where she plans to study biology. Tran has been interning in the Allergic Diseases Lab in the BWH Division of Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergy under the supervision of Dr. Michael Gurish.
“Binh has been a delight to work with. She has shown great enthusiasm and excitement for all of her projects.” said Gurish. “I can think of no better person to join the nursing profession.” Tran has been researching mast cells, which are critical in asthma and allergic diseases. She has learned to count and culture mast cells as well as to recognize mast cell colonies among other things.
“I’ve been able to look at and study real animal cells using equipment that we definitely don’t have at school,” said Tran. “The research is really interesting. I enjoy learning all the new things and finding questions and answering them. It’s not like work at all.”
