BWH President Betsy Nabel and Bob Donaghue at this year's toy drive
Kristen Koch, of BWH Patient and Family Relations, has volunteered to help with the Toys for Tots drive at BWH since it began three years ago—simply because she loves helping others.
“This is a great way to give back to the community,” said Koch, who dressed up as an elf during this year’s three-day drive, which was held in the 75 Francis St. lobby Dec. 9–11. “It’s very rewarding and humbling to participate and see so many BWHers come by to drop off donations.”
Thanks to the generosity of BWHers and visitors, this year’s Toys for Tots collection was a huge success. Hundreds of new and unwrapped toys were collected and will be donated to local families in need this holiday season.
In addition to elves spreading holiday cheer during the drive, the red and white sleigh that was used to collect donations last year was parked in the lobby once again.
Bob Donaghue, operations manager for BWH Security and Parking, leads the event each year with the help of people from different departments. He thanked the BWH community for its continued support for Toys for Tots.
“Each year, I have been blown away by the generosity of BWHers, and this year was no exception,” he said. “It means a lot to see our BWH community come together to make this annual drive so successful.”

For the second year in a row, BWH will be holding a “Welcome Winter” food drive to benefit the Parker Hill/Fenway ABCD Emergency Food Pantry in Mission Hill Dec. 15–21.
The drive will feature costumed polar bears, snow angels and more. You can leave non-perishable food items on the sleigh in the 75 Francis St. lobby. Collection boxes will also be placed at various locations throughout the hospital. In addition to non-perishable food items, cash or check donations are also accepted.
