BWH mourns the loss of Shirley Masiello, a supervisor for Central Transport Services and BWH employee of 25 years. Mrs. Masiello died unexpectedly on Oct. 2 at age 60.
Mrs. Masiello joined BWH as a patient transporter and worked her way up to supervisor. Colleagues called her the utmost professional with a heart of gold, who treated everyone like family.
“She truly enjoyed helping the hospital run and knowing that her work helped staff care for their patients,” said daughter-in-law Lisa Masiello, RN, of Shapiro 6W. “She knew what a big responsibility that was, and she loved to meet and greet patients and families. She really impressed upon her team to treat patients with a tremendous amount of respect, as if they were their own family members.”
Added Luis Soto, director of Central Transport and Environmental Services: “Shirley was well-liked by all of our transporters, especially our young men and women. She was always very supportive to our staff and a very reliable supervisor. She will be missed by all.”
Mrs. Masiello is survived by her husband, Roger Masiello Sr.; son Richard Hanscom; son Roger Masiello Jr., a former BWH employee, and daughter-in-law, Lisa; daughter, Lynda Masiello, and son-in-law, Steven Thibeault; her three grandchildren, Haleigh, Spenser and Sabrina; and other family members and friends.
