Marie McDonnell
Marie E. McDonnell, MD, has been named director of BWH's Diabetes Program. She began in the role last month.
McDonnell is responsible for building and improving diabetes care across all BWH entities. She provides clinical, academic and administrative leadership of the program. McDonnell works closely with Ursula Kaiser, MD, chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension, and Joseph Loscalzo, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Medicine.
She joins BWH from Boston Medical Center, where she served as director of Clinical Diabetes. She was also on the faculty at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). In these roles, she created an academic inpatient diabetes program that served to increase diabetes services and campus-wide education for providers and nurses.
McDonnell received her BA in Spanish and pre-medicine from the College of the Holy Cross and her MD from BUSM. She completed her postdoctoral training at New York Presbyterian Hospital and BUSM.
