BWHers prepare for a Shapiro evacuation drill on the morning of May 3.
On May 3, the City of Boston, BWH and other area hospitals and organizations, participated in Urban Shield 2014. The day-long emergency drill consisted of various training scenarios to evaluate emergency preparedness systems and public safety capabilities.
At BWH, Shapiro 10 staged its annual evacuation event to coincide with Urban Shield. It involved the relocation of mock patients to other floors in the hospital.
In addition, BWH participated in a surge exercise based on a mock evacuation of another hospital, in which the BWH Emergency Operations Center was activated. During the evening hours, a city-wide exercise to evaluate controlled access and safety procedures was performed, involving BWH Security and Parking.
