Sweat suits are not typically thought of as a supply needed in an emergency room. More often gauze, IV bags, tape, casts, suture materials and linens come to mind. However among the ample supplies of such materials, are hundreds of pieces of clothing for trauma and other patients needing a clean change of clothes after being treated in BWH’s ED.
This substantial inventory is possible thanks to the TJX Company, headquartered in Framingham. TJX has donated a significant supply of clothes to stock the “ED Boutique,” to meet a specific patient need.
The “ED Boutique” is a project initiated by ED staff about three years ago, when providing scrubs to such patients became more difficult and costly. According to the ED’s Deanna Ahearn, RN, who coordinates the project, originally staff would donate clothes; however, the patient volume far exceeded the modest inventory.
So far, TJX has donated a total of 40 dozen men’s and women’s sweat suits, 20 dozen t-shirts, as well a large stock of socks. As Ahearn explained, because of TJX’s generosity, the boutique's bins labeled “men,” “women,” “pants,” “socks,” and “t-shirts,” are completely full and ready to be given to ED patients who need them upon exiting the ED.
“We are extremely grateful for TJX's donation as it assists us to better carry out our patient care mission,” said Ahearn.
