Wendy Jeffrey-O’Flavin, Ambulatory Secretary
BWH mourns the loss of Ms. Wendy Jeffrey-O’Flavin, an ambulatory secretary in the Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery. She passed away July 4 at the age of 64.
A resident of Weymouth for more than 40 years, Ms. Jeffrey-O’Flavin worked in several hospitals in the Longwood Medical Area prior to joining BWH’s Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery’s Department of Ambulatory Obstetrics and Gynecology, where she worked for two decades.
“One of my personal favorite memories of her was that her colleagues called her ‘LaLa’ because of her good-natured, laid back and ever positive manner,” said Sandra Harmon, MSN, RN, nursing director of the Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery. “She was just the sweetest person, and her patients loved her.”
Another colleague remembers Ms. Jeffrey-O’Flavin’s warm and friendly personality. “She brought many a smile to patients and co-workers. She always had a ‘can do’ attitude and was positive, focused and determined,” said Kathy Lyons, BSN, RN.
During her free time, Ms. Jeffrey-O’Flavin enjoyed bike riding, skiing and many other outdoor activities. Her family describes her as outgoing and fun-loving.
The passing of Ms. Jeffrey-O’Flavin has deeply touched the Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery, and staff have decided to rename their C.A.R.E. award in her honor. The award is presented to staff who exhibit care, exceptional attitude, respect and empathy to patients, families and co-workers.
“She will be deeply missed, but her memory and her extraordinary commitment to excellence in patient care will live on in our hearts and through this award,” said Harmon.
Ms. Jeffrey-O’Flavin is survived by her children, Tracey Flavin and Christopher Flavin, one grandson, two sisters and several nieces and nephews. Memorial visitation was held July 9 in Weymouth.
