In Memoriam
Marilyn Ruth Colcord, NICU Nurse
For the past decade at BWH, Mrs. Marilyn Ruth Colcord, BSN, RN, devoted herself to the care of BWH’s most vulnerable patients and was a mentor and friend to many NICU staff. She passed away July 7 at her home in Foxborough. She was 59.
“Marilyn leaves a strong legacy of courage and commitment to serving others. She had the opportunity to touch many people and, because of this, the lives of countless patients, families and colleagues have been enriched,” said Angelleen Peters-Lewis, PhD, RN, executive director of Women and Newborns Nursing and Clinical Services.
Mrs. Colcord, who was born in Melrose, raised four children and then returned to college to pursue her degree in nursing. In 1997, she graduated from Salem State College and joined the NICU team shortly thereafter.
Many of her colleagues from the NICU remember her kind, gentle manner, skilled nursing care and the compassion she showed to patients, families and colleagues. They also remember her as a courageous person who, in the midst of her battle with cancer, took time to inspire others by sharing her experience. Early this year, Mrs. Colcord was among patients interviewed by the Boston Herald about the care they received at the new Yawkey Center for Cancer Care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Wife of the late Edward Colcord, Mrs. Colcord is survived by four children, Marc, Jennifer, Nancy and Cindy, and 10 grand-children. A memorial service was held July 12 at the Church of Emanuel, Christian and Missionary Alliance in Foxborough.
