BWH mourns the loss of Irina Khazanov, of Decision Support Systems in the Center for Clinical Excellence, whom friends and colleagues remember as a conscientious and joyful person always willing to lend a hand to help others. Ms. Khazanov died Dec. 8.
“You won’t find in this world a more passionate person,” said Victoria Doroshenko, a project specialist in the Partners HealthCare Clinical Informatics Group and a long time friend of Ms. Khazanov. “She was always thinking about others and how she could help them, and she never asked for anything back.”
Ms. Khazanov, a lead analyst in Decision Support, worked closely with BWH staff in the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Services. Troy Tomilonus, director of Decision Support Systems, said that Ms. Khazanov’s giving nature carried over to her work at BWH.
“Irina had a wealth of knowledge about her job and mentored many new DSS staff,” he said. “She had a great smile and loved her time at work.”
Outside of work, Ms. Khazanov devoted herself to her family and her hobbies. She enjoyed making flower arrangements and was a talented musician who took pleasure in sharing her music with others.
“She was a wonderful singer and pianist,” Doroshenko said. “In the Russian community, she organized concerts for elderly people and would often offer to play the piano for birthday parties or other celebrations.”
Ms. Khazanov is survived by her husband, Igor, and two sons, Dmitriy, 24, and Richard, 11. She is also survived by her parents and a sister, Yelena Kleyner, who works in the Clinical Informatics Group at Partners, as well as numerous cousins.
A funeral was held Dec. 10 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel in Brookline, and a trust fund has been set up for her children.
