If you’ve spent time in the operating rooms at BWH in the past 33 and a half years, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Errol Beaumont. Colleagues say the former inventory clerk made it a point to get to know everyone he worked with. Mr. Beaumont died Jan. 3.
“Everyone knew him by name, and he could interact with anyone at any level,” said Gina Piszcz, materials manager for the Operating Rooms. “And, his knowledge of the Brigham’s operating rooms—of the products and the landscape—was amazing.”
Other friends and former colleagues remember Mr. Beaumont’s love of his work, his sense of humor and his passion for fishing.
“He loved to go down to the Cape and fish for porgy,” said Toni Kimble, Operating Room assistant supervisor, who knew Mr. Beaumont for the entire time he worked at BWH. “He would catch something like 50 fish in one trip, and then he would come back to work and tell you how he prepared them and share the recipes.”
Mr. Beaumont also participated in annual fishing trips with his colleagues from the OR, Kimble said, which was just one of the ways the friendships he made at work carried over to his personal life.
“He made so many lasting friendships at the Brigham, even keeping in touch with people he worked with more than 20 years ago,” Kimble added.
“Errol was the kind of person who always had a smile on his face and always managed to pull a smile from someone who didn’t want to smile,” said Piszcz. “His attitude was contagious.”
Originally from Jamaica, Mr. Beaumont resided in Boston. He is survived by five children and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, Daphne Beaumont, also a former BWH employee.
A funeral was held Jan. 8 at the Full Life Gospel Church in Dorchester.
