After a string of successes, the BWH Value Analysis program, led by Nancy Masaschi, has transitioned to Partners HealthCare (PHS). While the program has moved to the PHS level, the goals driving down the costs of services while increasing the quality of care, remain as critically important as in the past.
“The impact of the program can be much greater by expanding the scope to the entire system,” said Matt Van Vranken, chief operating officer at BWH. “At the time of this transition, it is important to recognize the efforts of Nancy Masaschi, who made the program such a success here at BWH.”
Under Masaschi’s direction, the program helped clinical and administrative leaders to identify a number of opportunities to improve processes, enhance billing and reimbursement options, reduce costs and improve technology, yielding more than $2 million of savings over the course of the last two years. During this time, BWH’s efforts were recognized as a model by the University Hospital Consortium.
As Value Analysis is rolled out to other Partners hospitals, Andrew Madden, director, Materials Management, will serve as the BWH representative. Questions or input related to Value Analysis at BWH should be directed to Madden directly.
