The CWN Bereavement Committee welcomed more than 40 parents, children, relatives and members of the BWH community to the third annual Service of Remembrance last Saturday. The service was an occasion for families who have experienced perinatal loss to remember their babies.
Each family was presented with a star on which to write their child’s name and any sentiment they wished to convey. Parents placed their stars on a felt board imaging the heavens. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to BWH and meet other families who had experienced similar loss.
CWN nurses, social workers and chaplains read reflective poems, and a classical guitarist played musical interludes throughout the service. A reception in the Peter Bent Brigham Rotunda followed the ceremony as well as an opportunity for family members to reflect in the serenity garden outside the NICU Solarium.
