In This Issue:
When BWH employees arrive at work, helping and serving others is always on the forefront of their minds. And, over these past few weeks, we have all been reminded of the power and importance of giving. There is no better time than now to share in the spirit of philanthropy that has swept across the country. By making a contribution to the 2001 United Way/Tobin School Fund, BWH can participate in the process of rebuilding. Each donation to the campaign will help construct a network of support, bridging the doors of Francis Street to the greater BWH community.
The United Way
The United Way supports several social service agencies that operate in the neighborhoods surrounding the hospital. Often times, BWH patients and families are referred to these organizations for assistance, support and continued care. When you make a donation to United Way, (Cont. on p.4)
here are just a few ways your dollars are touching the lives BWH patients and neighbors:
In an effort to reach beyond Boston and assist the communities of New York City and Washington D.C., the United Way has developed the "September 11th Fund." If employees wish to make a contribution to the "September 11th Fund," they may do so by indicating this on their campaign contribution form.
The Tobin School Fund
Through the Tobin School Fund, BWH employees have the unique opportunity to reach out to more than 500 students and their families. The partnership between BWH and the Tobin School, now entering its 11th year, is focused on increasing parent, family, community and hospital involvement in student’s learning. Your dollars will help support several programs that link hospital staff to the school’s academic mission. Employee contributions not only ensure the continued operation of these programs, but also funding for basic needs that sustain healthy student life. These include clothing, food and access to extracurricular activities. Here are a few examples of how your generous contribution assists a child who attends the Tobin School:
Campaign at a glance
The United Way/Tobin School Fund kicks off on September 26 with a special event to educate staff about the campaign. Join representatives from the United Way, the Tobin School and Partners HealthCare System for cake and refreshments in the Connors Center lobby and gain valuable insight on how your contribution is changing lives. All staff are encouraged to participate in the campaign, through payroll deductions or a one-time contribution. Be sure to make your donation early to be eligible for raffle prizes. For more information on how to contribute, contact Marlene Freeley at ext. 2-8501. Look for more details on the campaign’s progress in future issues of BWH Bulletin.
