BWH employees arrived at the hospital’s Blood Donor Center in large numbers in the wake of last week’s national disaster and as a result of the BWH/MGH Blood Donor Challenge.
From September 11 to September 17, 466 units of blood were collected. In addition, 211 individuals donated blood from August 27 to September 14 as part of the BWH/MGH Blood Donor Challenge.
Despite such a positive turnout, employees are reminded to continue to sign up to donate in the weeks and months to come.
"The recent willingness of employees, visitors and others to donate blood at BWH has been overwhelming. Although our blood supply is at an adequate level at the moment, donations will be needed in the near future," said Linda Perry, recruiter, BWH’s Blood Donor Center.
"We encourage staff to space out their donations so our supply remains consistent over time. For those who have not donated recently, we suggest scheduling appointments to donate in approximately three weeks," added Perry.
