What does “Respect” mean to you? How can BWH employees better demonstrate respect to our patients and each other? These are issues that the Staff Survey Respect Team has been tackling for several months.
The Respect Team—one of the five teams assembled to follow-up on the results of BWH’s first ever 1999 Staff Survey—is pleased to announce its Respect Campaign to emphasize respect for all patients, staff and guests of BWH.
“The campaign sets the tone for employees to be more aware of how we interact with our patients and our colleagues," said DeeDee Mariano, Respect Team leader. The team is encouraging staff to show appreciation for colleagues’ contributions by simply saying “please” and "thank you.” Mariano explained that using these short and simple words helps to build a community of respect in which staff feel appreciated and valued.
As part of the campaign, the team will distribute tools to remind us of the importance of respect, including buttons, neck lanyards, memo pads, and thank you note cards, all with a respect logo. The respect items will be available to employees outside the Cafeteria starting Monday, June 25.
All employees can present thank you cards to those colleagues who have shown exceptional respect to others and made colleagues feel better about what they do.
Ideas to further enhance the campaign are encouraged, as building a community of respect is an ongoing process. Feedback or questions should be directed to Respect Team leader Wendy Gondek at wgondek@partners.org or ext. 2-6436.
