BWH Honors Student Interns
BWH’s Office for Women, Family and Community Programs hosted a celebratory event to honor the accomplishments of the 13 high school students involved in the 2000-2001 Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Biomedical Science After-school Internship Program.
Participating students, all interested in pursuing careers in biomedical science, worked 10 hours per work at BWH and received guidance and mentorship from their supervisors and BWH’s HHMI Coordinator Julia Quigley. In addition to working at BWH, students were required to deliver a presentation to BWH peers and take part in an essay contest. The essays summarized the students’ HHMI experience since their internship began in November 2000.
At the event, a $3000 educational scholarship was presented to Alta Bazile, the winner of the internship’s essay contest. Bazile (left), a senior at John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, is pictured above with Quigley. Bazile will be entering Gordon College in the fall.
