Aside from being the common workplace for Cheryl and Jerry Foley, BWH was the birthplace for all three of the Foley’s children, ages 15, 12 and 10. “Our oldest boy was born nine weeks premature, so we spent quite a bit of time in the NICU,” said Cheryl, a staff accountant in Research Administration. “Needless to say, we have a very definite bond with BWH,” said Jerry, a steam fitter in the Department of Engineering. The Foley’s bond with each other has resulted in nearly 17 years of marriage. Cheryl says with a smirk “it only took him nine years to propose.” “I was well worth the wait,” says Jerry with a laugh. Before they had children, Cheryl and Jerry used to commute together. Now, their schedules revolve around their kids and Cheryl now works off-site at 10 Brookline Place. Commuting together is only reserved for the summer months and snowy days when the kids are out of school. “I’m the one responsible for dropping off the kids at school, while Jerry takes the kids to after school activities and helps them with their homework,” said Cheryl. One of those activities happens to be hockey, an interest of both Cheryl and Jerry. While both of their boys play hockey, Jerry is an assistant coach and Cheryl plays on a women’s hockey league in Hyde Park. Free time is barely non-existent for the Foleys. But when some free time is available, Cheryl and Jerry enjoy going out to dinner, which is how they will spend this Valentine’s Day.
