Patrice K. Nicholas, DNSc, MPH, RN, ANP, a nurse administrator at BWH and associate professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, was one of 25 scholars selected from the United States to participate as a U.S. German Fulbright Scholar in 2003. The Fulbright Scholar Exchange was initiated by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright in 1947 to enhance the international exchange of scholars throughout the world. Nicholas will be traveling to Germany in June to study “Challenges of Demographics.” Her project addresses pressing needs in health care as they relate to emerging infectious diseases and chronic illnesses in the 21st century as well as workforce issues in health care. Nicholas has authored or co-authored more than 40 research-based papers, clinical papers, and abstracts related to HIV/AIDS, chronic illness, international health, quality of life, and cross-cultural issues in health care. She is the principal investigator (PI) or co-PI on studies related to adherence to medications in HIV disease in the U.S. and South Africa. In addition, Nicholas serves on the review boards of several nursing journals including the Journal of Nursing Scholarship, Nursing Research, and Nursing and Health Care: Perspectives on Community.
