Nurses from the BWH Labor and Delivery (L&D) and Postpartum units have teamed up to address patient satisfaction with the creation of the Transfer Task Force. The group meets monthly to identify areas and issues of concern regarding the transfer of patients from L&D to Postpartum as well as to improve communication and policies and procedures between the units.
“The Transfer Task Force has already improved communication by means of implementing a new postpartum report sheet that is being consistently used by L&D nurses,” said Christine Bonanno, RN, assistant nurse manager, CWN, who co-facilitates the Transfer Task Force with Renee Purcell, RN, assistant nurse manager, CWN. “The group has also distributed “teamwork” pins to those nurses identified as improving patient transfers, which includes anything that is done to expedite transferring a patient from L&D to Postpartum.”
The Transfers Task Force is part of the broader postpartum Service Excellence Initiative launched to boost customer service in the Connors Center for Women’s Health.
