Bermas Receives Clinical Innovations Grant
Bonnie L. Bermas, MD, director of the Center for Lupus and Antiphospholipid Antibody Immunology and Allergy, in November received the Department of Medicine’s 2006 Clinical Innovations Grant.
“This award will allow Dr. Bermas and her team to continue to support the development of new and innovative ideas,” said Marc Pfeffer, MD, PhD, Cardiovascular Division, who chaired the DOM Clinical Innovations Grant Selection Committee.
This team includes Karen Costenbader, MD, MPH; Peter Schur, MD; Elizabeth Karlson, MD; Jonathan Coblyn, MD; and Patricia Fraser, MD. They were recognized for her project “Brigham and Women’s Hospital Systemic Lupus Erthymatosus Center of Excellence” and will use the award to expand, centralize and improve the coordination of care of Systemic Lupus Erthymatosus (SLE), a complex autoimmune disease, with symptoms ranging from fevers, rashes and arthritis to glomerulonephritis, hemolytic anemia and neurological involvement.
