Center for Older Adult Health Now Accepting Patients
The Center for Older Adult Health, the clinical arm of the BWH Division of Aging, is now accepting patients 65 and older in need of primary and consultative care at Faulkner Hospital and the BWH Arthritis Center in ASBII. These clinical sites are integral to the Division of Aging, created in 2003 to address issues affecting the growing segment of the population that has reached retirement age.
Juergen Bludau, MD, director of clinical geriatrics in the Division of Aging, is overseeing clinic operations. "In the same way that children benefit from seeing a pediatrician, older people benefit from seeing a geriatrician," Bludau said. "Our approach is comprehensive, with a goal of keeping patients healthy and active. We look at physical and psychological function, diet, and medication management, among other things."
The Center for Older Adult Health also includes geriatric oncology and cardiology specialists, and is looking to add an endocrinologist and a psychologist. In addition, the Center provides consultation and training for caregivers treating patients with dementia and memory problems.
