The New England Journal of Medicine, one of the most prestigious medical publications in the world, has announced that BWH’s Jeffrey M. Drazen, MD, chief of pulmonary medicine, will be its next editor-in-chief. Drazen’s internship, residency, pulmonary fellowship, and faculty positions were all served at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He began teaching at Harvard Medical School in 1976, and was named the Parker B. Francis Professor of Medicine at HMS in 1990. In addition, he is known nationwide for his excellent work in clinical research of lung diseases. Throughout his career, Drazen has published numerous articles in the NEJM. One of his goals as editor-in-chief will be to make the publication more relevant to practicing physicians. He plans to add more review articles, which summarize key research in a given area, and “mini-editorials” to put information in context for the journal’s readers.
