In preparation for the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) survey in January, BWH’s PREPAIRE Team is holding a mock survey on May 23 with a nurse surveyor from the JCAHO. “Mock surveys provide an objective critique of our current practices and procedures to find those areas that need improvement,” says Karen Nelson, director of Corporate and Regulatory Compliance. Patient assessment and care will be the focus of the May 23 survey, which will also touch on patient and family education, medication processes, performance evaluations, patient rights, advanced directives, and restraints. The surveyor will hold an exit conference at 4 p.m. to discuss her observations, go over preliminary findings, and take questions. All managers and directors are invited to the exit conference.
