Once the Robert and Ronnie Bretholtz Center for Patients and Families is completed in November 2000, BWH patients and their loved ones will have a place to meet with caregivers, look up information in the health library, and utilize the business center’s computer connections and fax machine. The center is named for the late Board of Trustees chairman Robert Bretholtz, who was known throughout the hospital for his dedication to improving service to patients and families, and who lost his battle against cancer in 1999. With a full-time staff and private areas, the center is designed to make patients’ and families’ experience at BWH more informative, supportive, and comfortable. For the next few months, construction on the center will be occupying much of the hospital’s entrance at 75 Francis Street. To accommodate space for the center, some departments and services will be temporarily relocated. A large wall will separate the construction area from the rest of the first floor, and signs will be posted on it to direct people around the area and to departments’ new locations. This phase of moving departments, known as “Phase Zero,” should be completed by the end of May. After that, the actual construction, known as “Phase One,” will begin. Here is a list of the temporary locations of the departments to be moved during Phase Zero: Area location from Mid-May through November Information Desk: Main Lobby directly across from the Amory Elevators Admitting Department: New entry by lobby’s central staircase Family Liaison: Anesthesia Conference, Connors Center (CWN) L1 Chapel: Medical Lounge, Entrance via ASBII Lower Lobby Chaplain Office: Emergency Department Administration Suite Patient Relations: Emergency Department Administration Suite
