Meet Julie Von Lambsdorff
Town Meeting
Walk for hunger
When Julie Von Lambsdorff, a volunteer on the maternity floors since 1994, hears that patients or staff need something, she responds immediately. The staff she supports readily agree that Julie embodies the spirit of volunteerism. She is compassionate, caring, and always ready to respond to whatever her department’s needs might be. Julie has assisted with many practical yet crucial tasks—folding baby linen, helping with discharges, taking baby pictures, assisting with clerical assignments, and training and supervising other volunteers. Quietly, unassumingly, and patiently, she devotes her work to new mothers and their families. For example, Julie responded immediately when she learned that many expectant moms on the 7th floor high-risk unit—particularly those who spoke Spanish—needed reading materials to help the time pass during their lengthy stay. Thanks to her behind-the-scene efforts, many patients now enjoy reading material in their native language. In addition, she has served as a trainer, mentor, and role model for many high school volunteers. All of Julie’s endeavors are a gift to the maternity floors, and everyone she works with knows that she makes BWH a better place. More than 800 volunteers pledge their time and talent to support the mission of BWH. Five of them have been honored as Volunteers of the Year and will be recognized at a celebration on May 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Bornstein Amphitheater. Correction: The March 31 issue of Bulletin referred to Volunteer of the Year Leonard Einstein as a retired psychiatrist. Einstein is a retired therapist/counselor. Bulletin regrets the error.
