In This Issue:
BWH staff can advance their clinical practice when it comes to caring for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patients and families by taking advantage of free Web-based training sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign.
The Web training ranges from resources needed to ensure optimal care for LGBT patients that fully comply with CMS and Joint Commission requirements, to how to better serve transgender patients.
BWH participates in the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), which rates institutions on their policies and practices related to LGBT patients and families. Last year, for the second consecutive year, BWH and BWFH attained leadership status with the campaign, as many employment and patient policies reflected the hospitals’ commitment to diversity on these issues.
Three types of LGBT training are offered:
LGBT Patient-Centered Care: An Executive Briefing: This highly engaging and informative 90-minute overview gives senior health care managers the information they need to ensure that their organizations provide optimal care for LGBT patients and are in full compliance with CMS and Joint Commission requirements.
Your LGBT Patients: An Introduction: This 60-minute webinar is ideal for interested non-managerial employees. Employees can attend any of the six training dates offered. Transgender Patients: Organizational Best Practices: This 60-minute webinar is ideal for staff members who want to learn more about how their organizations can better serve transgender patients. Please note that it focuses on organizational practices, not clinical information. Visit BWHPikeNotes.org for details on how to register. Email questions to bwhlgbt@partners.org.
