As BWH continues to feel the strain of this economic downturn amid an increased focus on health care costs, the hospital will not be able to offer a salary increase to employees in the hospital’s merit-based program next fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. In addition, all senior executives and department chairs will receive a reduction in their compensation.
“We all hope the economy will begin to show signs of a sustained recovery, but until it does, we need to plan for the challenges we face in the months ahead,” BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, said.
The focus of this decision is an effort to try to save jobs and preserve benefits, Gottlieb said.
“Our mission, as always, will be our guide as we continue to do what is best for our patients, their families and all the communities that we serve,” he said.
