Geoff Vercauteren, who has served for three years as the career coach in Workforce Development, was appointed director of the department in August.
“Geoff came to us with a wealth of experience in all aspects of WFD and coaching,” said Lisa S. Ponton, JD, vice president of HR. “This experience added much to our current offerings and sets our WFD program apart from others across the city and country.”
“I’m grateful to have learned from Beverley Sobers, who developed the Workforce Development model at BWH,” said Vercauteren. “Our team is looking forward to a busy year with the launch of several new programs to benefit employees.”
The department launched a Microsoft Office course for employees and received an overwhelming 79 applications for the course, which begins this fall. Also this fall, Workforce Development begins its second School at Work class with nine employees. In February, the department plans to roll out a mentoring program to help meet the needs of all departments throughout the hospital.
In addition, Workforce Development is about to go live with a new database to track all of its programs and measure efforts and outcomes. “This will change the way we are able to show how effective Workforce Development is,” said Vercauteren.
Prior to joining BWH, Vercauteren served as manager of employment programs at the Work Place, a one-stop career center in Boston. Before that, he was director of outreach for Jewish Vocational Service and worked in several positions in vocational rehabilitation for nine years prior. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northeastern University and is a registered corporate coach and a certified job and career development coach.
