In some ways, Beverley Sobers has been preparing to lead Recruitment in Human Resources since she began her career at BWH in 1977 as a unit coordinator at the Robert Breck Brigham Hospital. From there, she accepted a time planner position, in which she was responsible for all nurse scheduling and payroll for a large part of the hospital.
Her first HR position came in 1988, when she served as a liaison between HR and Nursing focusing on recruitment.
“The experience I have from many positions at the hospital over the years is extremely beneficial to me as I take on this new position,” said Sobers, who most recently served as director of Workforce Development.
“Over the past few years, Bev has distinguished herself as a solid member of the leadership team working tirelessly to lead BWH’s Workforce Development efforts,” said Lisa S. Ponton, JD, vice president of HR. “I am confident Bev will bring the same dedication and enthusiasm to her new role in recruitment.”
Sobers oversees a staff of 16 recruiters, administrative personnel and a staffing coordinator, who work together to fill open positions and collaborate with managers to identify needs. The team is responsible for approximately 2,500 hires per year on average.
“One of our goals is to have recruiters truly partner with the departments they work with so that we are always aware of any changes, such as an increase in staffing, that we need to help with,” Sobers said. “Another goal is to help internal applicants move quickly into other positions within the organization. We are committed to helping employees grow within the hospital.”
That’s a goal shared by the Workforce Development team, which Sobers directed for the last seven years, overseeing the growth of programs and offerings for job seekers and internal candidates. Prior to that, she served in positions including HR generalist and recruiting liaison since joining BWH.
