Angelleen Peters-Lewis, PhD, RN, a skilled clinical nurse and nurse practitioner with a strong research and leadership background, was named BWH’s director of Women’s and Newborn Nursing and Clinical Services. She begins at BWH Monday, Sept. 24. Peters-Lewis joins BWH from Massachusetts General Hospital where she served as nursing director for Endoscopy Services and an associate nurse scientist in the Yvonne Munn Center for Nursing Research.
“Angelleen will serve as a key member of both the nursing executive team and the interdisciplinary team committed to assuring excellence in women’s health,” Mairead Hickey, PhD, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president for Patient Care Services, said. “She is widely regarded as a talented and inspirational leader who advocates strongly for her staff and is committed to the development of nurses and nursing practice.”
In this new role, Peters-Lewis is responsible for the overall management of Labor and Delivery, Antepartum, Postpartum, Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology, Neonatal Intensive Care and the Nurse Midwifery Service.
Peters-Lewis served as a nursing director at MGH for six years. Prior to that, she was a nurse practitioner at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, the Boston VNA and at BWH in oncology nursing. She holds a variety of academic appointments including the University of Massachusetts, Simmons College, MGH Institute of Health Professions and Roxbury and Bunker Hill community colleges.
She brings to BWH a strong research background and commitment to reducing disparities and improving access to health care for minorities, specifically Caribbean women.
Peters-Lewis received her bachelor of science in nursing from Simmons College, a graduate degree in nursing as a family nurse practitioner from Northeastern University and a doctorate in nursing from Boston College.
