Adrienne Haythe, LICSW, counsels Helen Sheldon, a patient in the Emergency Department. Haythe is one of 39 masters level clinical social workers, five on-call after-hours social workers, and nine social work interns from Boston College, Boston University, Simmons College, and Smith College who are available to patients and their families 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Part of the department of Care Coordination, BWH social workers provide intervention in the areas of the Emergency Department, Women and Newborn Health, Oncology, Cardiology, Thoracics, Burn/ Trauma, BIMA, Medicine, Surgery/ Ortho/Neuro, and domestic violence. Social workers assess, evaluate, counsel, and provide crisis intervention and support to patients and families, both inpatient and outpatient. In addition, social workers facilitate a variety of ongoing support groups for patients. Help celebrate National Social Work Month and visit the display on social work in the lobby of the Connors Center from March 23 to March 29. For more information, call the department of Care Coordination at ext. 6469.
