Nancy Kruger, DNSc., CRNP, has been named as the new vice president of Patient Care Services and will join BWH on May 15. Reporting to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Matt Van Vranken, Kruger will assume management responsibility for a number of key areas. In addition to Nursing, she will manage the Emergency Department, Pharmacy, Care Coordination, Chaplaincy, Patient and Family Relations, Patient Education, Oncology, and Radiation Oncology. Kruger has served as chief, Patient Services at Hershey Medical Center (HMC) in Hershey, Pennsylvania, since 1986, a department chair level position within the Penn State Geisinger organization. HMC is a 504-bed teaching affiliate of Pennsylvania State University Medical School. In this role, she has been responsible for all inpatient and outpatient nursing, as well as serving as the medical center’s liaison for information technology, pharmacy, pathology, environmental health, food services, and risk management. Prior to that, she held the positions of chief nursing officer at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and clinical director of Medical Nursing and Emergency Services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. “Nancy’s depth of experience in complex academic medical center settings provides her with the right tools and perspective to contribute here at BWH,” said Van Vranken. “She has an outstanding record of achievement and I am confident that she will be able to provide strong leadership in this expanded role.” At HMC, Kruger worked collaboratively with union representatives on a number of pojects, including the hospital’s current movement toward a needle-less environment. Kruger earned a Doctor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, a masters degree in Parent-Child Health in Nursing from New York State University, and a bachelors degree in Nursing from Skidmore College. She has been a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives since 1983, president of the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Executives, and a member of the National League for Nursing since 1987. Additionally, she has been a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses since 1975.
