Sunil Eappen, MD, last week was appointed vice chairman for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine. He will manage the growth of the department as the demand for anesthesiologists increases along with new developments and advances in traditionally non-surgical specialties outside of the operating room, as well as the addition of 16 new operating rooms in the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center.
“I look forward to working with many departments within the hospital,” Eappen said. “Anesthesiologists play a vital role in every surgery in the operating rooms and many invasive procedures outside the operating rooms at BWH. We are excited to grow as a department that is committed to safety and excellence.”
Eappen joined BWH in 1991 to complete his residency in Anesthesiology after graduating from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He was chief resident from 1994 to1995. Eappen has worked in various surgical subspecialties in the Anesthesiology department before being appointed clinical director in 2003.
“I am confident Dr. Eappen will handle his responsibilities in stellar fashion with great intelligence, diplomacy, patience and humor,” said Charles Vacanti, MD, chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine.
